What We Do

The Advanced Analytics Lab is dedicated to the development of automation modeling methods, algorithms, and computational tools that can be implemented in practice. The mission of the lab is to support national, state, and local efforts to provide safe, sustainable and productive stimulation models through improved monitoring and management by means of research and development, technology implementation, training, and education. The team cares to learn as much as they can about problems in construction and monitoring of civil infrastructure using the most powerful tools available to us … and to enjoy the process! Our ultimate hope is to learn something that others can, then develop a methodology or procedure or model that proves useful in alleviating the serious treats to infrastructure.

The Advanced Analytics Lab research and development activities provide a bridge between the Construction community, the Information technology community, and other disciplines. Our team at Advanced Analytics Lab are specialized in:

• Performance Measurement

• Data Mining

• Data Visualization

• Safety Analysis

• 3D/4D modeling

• Uncertainty Analysis

• LiDAR Data Processing

Automatic Assessment of Tornado Induced Building Damage

This research developed and tested a LiDAR data processing framework to automatically extract quantitative damage information required for tornado wind speed estimation and structural damage analysis.Algorithms were developed and tested to,detect building roof and wall surfaces in scans of damaged areas and quantify sheathing and covering losses, retrieve geographic information such as the building height, the roof pitch, the distance to the tornado path, etc. Learn More

Automatic Identification and Localization of Engineered Components

Manual collection of site data is error-prone, inefficient, and expensive. The amount of time to find a engineering component on project site randomly ranges from a few minutes to several hours.Overall, workers waste up large amounts of their time either searching or waiting for components. This research was developed to identify and localize the engineering components on industrial projects through Automation.Learn More
